Sony is saying bye bye to the 3.5 inch floppy disk. The last manufacturer of the floppy disk is stopping production in Japan in 2011. Most other floppy disk manufacturers had long since pulled out of the market, and Sony itself has already ceased sales to most of its overseas markets.

The writing has been on the wall for sometime now. Apple was the first computer maker to take the plunge and eliminate the floppy completely in 1998. Dell did the same in one of it´s models in 2003.

The 3.5 inch floppy has served us well for along time now. Remember Windows 95? It came on I think it was 13 or was it 15 floppy disks, heck can´t remember.
