albuequerque metro courthouseEarlier this month the new Metro Courthouse building in Albuquerque scandal came to an end with the final crook sentenced. Some of the players held big time political offices in New Mexico and included Manny Aragon, former president of the New Mexico State Senate and former Albuquerque mayor Ken Schultz. Schultz was the bagman for the cash. All in all $4.3 million was stolen from the $83 million project in various ways.

The rest of the crooks were, Raul Parra an engineer, Manuel Guara the audio-visual contractor, Michael Murphy the courthouse construction manager (and long time buddy of Aragon), Marc Schiff, designer, and Toby & Sandra Martinez. The charges against this gang of crooks varied some but included mail fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. Sentences ranged from probation to 67 months in a federal house of many doors and some big league restitution of stolen funds.
