It has always been thought by many that besides deportation and good border security that hitting the employers of illegal aliens with heavy fines and perhaps some jail time would be a major determent for illegal aliens to come here. The reasoning behind this is simple, no jobs available because the greedy employers are afraid of getting caught and getting hit in the pocketbook, cease to hire illegal aliens.

Enforcement during the Bush administration focused on high profile raids in which thousands of illegal aliens were arrested and placed in deportation proceedings. Relatively few companies and their executives were prosecuted. In contrast the Obama administration has made employers, both the small and the big boys the target.

Fines levied against employers of illegal aliens have dramatically increased since 2008 when 700 thousand was the figure. In 2009 it went up to around 1 million and a major increase occurred last year when the fines were up 10 fold from ’08 according to ICE.
