Here we go again people! There are rumblings from Washington that allowing Mexican Trucks full access to Americas highways might be resurfacing again. You will recall that congress stopped funding for that issue last year.

Are the folks supporting this totally bonkers! Lets look at issues that would pop up real fast if this were to happen. Northern Mexico is one of the most violent places around at the present time. Smuggling drugs, people and weapons would definitely increase from the already high rates at the present time, that is a given. Here is a list of other reasons that this is a very bad idea.

• Mexico has no safety standards like we do for trucks & drivers
• No drug testing for drivers
• No regulation of the trucking industry

If another part of this little plan happens it will lead us to dealing with the NAFTA highway which in my understanding would run from a central Mexican port on the Pacific side all the way to Canada. A lot of the goods arriving for delivery to the states would arrive at that port. With this in mind here ponder the following.

• Inspections of cargo arriving would be out of our hands
• Increased terrorism possibilities would exist like WMD smuggling
• Any inspections at all would probably be thwarted by bribes.

On the last item above please remember that corruption runs ramped in Mexico in all levels of government, hell they might be almost as bad as Washington DC in the corruption department. LOL, just kidding, or maybe not!

Now we get to the really absurd part. Proponents like to point out that American trucks would gain access to all of Mexico as part of this agreement. Let us list a few things on that side of the deal.

• Good chance of getting the load hijacked
• Good chance of getting the rig stolen
• Good chance of getting murdered
• Excellent chance of all of the above 3 things happening

In a wrap up any American trucker would be insane to want to drive a load south of the border. Also the Teamsters is against the deal because the cheap drivers from Mexico would definitely put more American workers in the unemployment line.

For all of the supporters of this outrageous plan I say, UP Yours!!
