New Kick Ass Intel Chip

by TBM on March 12, 2010

Intel Core I7 ChipThis chip is due to hit store shelves in a few weeks, but Intel is using the Game Developers Conference currently being held in San Francisco to unveil the new Core i7-980X Extreme processor. Intel’s Extreme Edition processors have always been targeted at hard core gamers, so what better place to show off the fastest desktop processor for the PC to date?

Badass NanaIf you think this monster may seem to be just a speed bump up over the existing Core i7-975 Extreme. WRONG! The 980X is totally different. The 45 nanometer Bloomfield core is featured in the 975 quad core. The new Core i7-980X Extreme is based on the 32 nanometer Gulftown core and has six execution cores! You heard right. Quad cores are no longer the bad boys on the block.

It seems for right now anyway that this is the bad boy of speed in the desktop box game.
