Obama Says Learn Spanish

3

At a town hall meeting in Georgia, presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama told an audience that,

you need to make sure that your child can speak Spanish.

Speaking in Powder Springs, Ga., the Illinois Senator said that the nation’s chief priority should not be for immigrants to learn English, but for American children to learn Spanish.

I am so disgusted with this statement that if I ever entertain the thought to vote for this elitist bozo, all I will have to do is remember his statement to snap me back to my senses

In fact I am to pissed off to elaborate on this story. So for the whole story see Obama Tells Audience, “You Need to Make Sure that Your Child Can Speak Spanish”

What in the fuck is Barak doing, trying to loose the election?
As a Texas Yellow Dog, I am apalled that any elected official would tell Americans to make there children learn Spanish.
Yes, everyone should be encouraged to learn another language, but immagraints should be encouraged/told to learn ENGLISH, not the other way around.
This is 100 times worse than any controversy over the Rev. Wright problem… Barack should be ashamed of himself, he is playing into Republican hands about being out of touch with main streem, middle America.

I never thought I would ever hear any American in leadership ask the American people to do what people all over the world have been doing forever-learning second, third, fourth, etc. languages-not just because they are required to, but because their culture and society is curious about the rest of the world and wants to be able to communicate with others. It has always been an embarrassment that Americans expect everyone else in the world to speak English, even when they are travelling abroad. Then those same Americans who have never even tried to learn another language make fun of the halting English of foreigners. Some Americans even think an accent or a mispronounced word is a sign of stupidity. Immigrants, legal and illegal, are the most courageous people in the world. They leave their loved ones, their homes, their possessions, all the beauty of their own culture and their native country to seek refuge from political and economic injustice in a foreign country where people will only look down on them. They work harder than anyone else, for less money and no respect, in jobs that are often far below their skill levels. Many who can find the time and money take English classe before or after work and between family responsibilities and little rest. Learning a different language is a great challenge in the best of conditions, and immigrants have the worst conditions. Americans living abroad-even those in the foreign service have the worst reputation for not learning the language of their host country-and most of them live in luxury and have servants. It is long overdue that Americans learn the beauty of being able to communicate with their next door neighbors, so Americans can learn about the amazing history and culture and the greatness of heart of the people of Mexico. They have been the greatest of friends to us for generations and ignorance of those who are our friends is even more dangerous than ignorance of our enemies. Take up the challenge, America. It’s time to grow. You too could someday become economic, political or disaster refugees. And, believe me, when you are in need of shelter, healthcare, food, money and education for yourself and your extended family, you won’t care about anyone’s immigration laws either. Hope it never happens to you. Practice what you preach, and thank Obama for being honest again about an important national issue. No country has ever lost its native language by simply learning a second language. What on earth are Americans so terrified of-all the time?
