Pink Floyd Wins Suit Against EMI
From several sources The Brass Monkey has learned that Britain´s High court has ruled in favor of Pink Floyd who had sued it´s record company EMI. Pink Floyd won its court battle with EMI on Thursday with a ruling that prevents the record company from selling single downloads on the Internet from the group’s concept albums. In the ruling the judge said the purpose of a clause in the contract, drawn up more than a decade ago, was to "preserve the artistic integrity of the albums."
EMI´s lawyer said that in the contract that the term record was used and that clearly meant a ´physical product´ and there for did not apply to online track downloads and ring tones. <<< Give me a break. LoL. The band´s lawyer disagreed and said that it would be a strange ruling indeed if the band were able to control exactly how their music was sold as a physical product but there was “a free-for-all with no limitation on online distribution.
Personally I am glad that Pink Floyd won. They were one of the bands that you had to see live back in the day, if you get my drift. ´WINKS´.
PS Pink Floyd’s back catalog at EMI has been outsold only by that of the Beatles
