A rare legal case
Patti Beeler’s daughter was born almost two years after the child’s father died. Now, in a rare legal case that could reach the U.S. Supreme Court, Beeler is fighting for Social Security survivor benefits for her daughter, Brynn, now 6. The girl was conceived through in vitro fertilization using sperm from Beeler’s late husband, Bruce.
A story in the DesMoines Register reports the government says Brynn is not eligible for the benefits, based upon an interpretation of a 150-year-old Iowa law written long before technology was available to allow the preservation of genetic material beyond a person’s life

Father, son pull 2 teens from fiery wreck
According to APP.Com in Asbury Park NJ it was a close call for two people stuck in a burning pickup truck on a dirt road in Milan NY. A father and son managed to pull both to safety just moments before the gas tank blew.
